Srinagar: The pilgrimage to the 3,880 metre high cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas remained suspended from Pahalgam route for the second consecutive day on Friday due to inclement weather.
"The yatra is suspended today also as a precautionary measure after heavy rains lashed the track leading to the cave shrine from Pahalgam," officials said.
Authorities had yesterday suspended the yatra from Pahalgam side due to heavy rains.
However, the pilgrimage was going on smoothly from the shorter Baltal route in Ganderbal district, they said.
They added that over 10,000 yatris left for the cave shrine on Friday morning from Baltal.
Meanwhile, amid tight security arrangements, a ninth batch of 3,723 pilgrims today left the Jammu base camp for Amarnath.
The pilgrims, including 104 women, 88 children, left in a cavalcade of 118 vehicles amid heavy rains from Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu at around 0500 hours for Amarnath, police said.
Till now, a total of 1.90 lakh pilgrims had visited the cave shrine and offered their prayers after having `darshan` (glimpse) of the ice-lingam, they said.
Meanwhile, another pilgrim died due to heart attack at Baltal last night, taking the death toll in this year`s yatra to 28.
M S Raja Narsimha, a resident of Bangalore, suffered a heart attack during the intervening night, the officials said.
