Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir government today said as many as 13,885 acres of land is under army occupation in Kargil district of the state.
Replying to the question of Aga Syed Ahmed Rizvi during Question Hour in Legislative Council, Law and parliamentary Affairs Minister Ali Mohmmad Sagar on the behalf
of Chief Minister told the House that army is in occupation of 13,885 acres of land in Kargil.
Of which, 13,412 acres is state land and 472 acres is private, he said.
In addition, an area of 12,107 acres has been notified as `Khurbathang Firing Range` for the period of 10 years as per the government order issued on March 8, 2004, he said.
Rizvi demanded that firing range should be shifted from the area as this is a cause great worry to the people.
"The state land has been occupied by army at different points of time and similarly the private lands were also taken over by army from land owners through direct negotiations and hiring which were subsequently regularised for pay of rentals," Sagar said.
