Srinagar: Army today said it had ordered shifting of the security camp at Pahalgam Golf course in Anantnag district of Kashmir.
The order for shifting of the camp was issued by the General Officer Commanding of the Chinar Corps, Lt General Gurmit Singh, during a meeting at Pahalgam yesterday, a defence spokesman said.
The camp would be shifted to an alternate site offered by the Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA), he said.
The meeting was convened to review security issues related to Amarnath pilgrimage, the spokesman said.
"The order for shifting of the camp is a welcome decision as it addresses the long-pending issue repeatedly projected by the civil administration," the spokesman said.
The vacated area would be utilised for further development of the Golf course to make it to international standards, he said.
"The decision of the Army will go a long way to enhance the image of Pahalgam which is a major tourist and sports attraction.
"It will also benefit the people as the step will pave the way for development of infrastructure and give a major boost to the Tourism industry," the spokesman said.
