Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday released a coffee table book titled 'Handicrafts of Kashmir', published by the Army's counter-insurgency Kilo Force.

Appreciating the Force's effort to celebrate the beauty and intricacy of Kashmir's handicrafts and textiles, Omar said, "The Army's role in social activities is laudable. Its present initiative to help in publishing an informative and creative book on Kashmir handicrafts would go in a big way to showcase Kashmir handicrafts and the magic of artisans".

The government, traders in the handicraft market and artisans must jointly work to restore the glory of Kashmir arts and crafts which are famous throughout the world, he said.

"We have to give the feeling to the craftsmen that their works are truly appreciated by ensuring remunerative returns to them," the Chief Minister said.

He also underlined the need to showcase the handicrafts of Kashmir beyond the boundaries of Jammu and Kashmir.

A defence spokesperson said the book was a result of the effort of the wives of personnel of the Kilo Force, who wanted to highlight the cause of the forgotten artisan.
