Srinagar: Long term availability of
affordable, accessible and environment friendly energy is the
need of the hour in Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar
Abdullah said on Thursday.
"Ensuring energy security to people on sustainable
basis is a stupendous task in Jammu and Kashmir which is power
deficient despite potential of over 18,000 MWs of hydro
electric power," Abdullah said addressing a joint meeting of
officers of the ministry of new and renewable energy (NRE) and
the state led by Chief Secretary S S Kapur here.
He also lauded the deep interest of Union NRE Minister
Farooq Abdullah for according special schemes to the state.
