Jammu: Terming the volatile situation in the valley as a problem of insurgency aided and abetted by Pakistan, BJP today asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to give a free hand to the security forces to bring the law and order situation there back to normal.

"Free hand should be given to the security forces to deal with militancy so that the worsening situation is brought back to normal. Bandh call supported by BJP is to warn government in this regard", state BJP spokesman Ramesh Arora told reporters here today.

Charging the Abdullah government with failure on all fronts, he said it had failed particularly in controlling law and order which had slipped to a dangerous levels.

"We are fighting a proxy war for the past many years and it is not a simple law and order problem but the problem of insurgency aided by Pakistan, he said.

Announcing the party's full support to Jammu bandh called by the Sangarsh Samiti, he said the party appeals to the public to understand the gravity of the situation and make the programme successful.
