Jammu: In a counter-attack, suspended leader of BJP legislative party Prof Chama Lal Gupta has issued notices to four BJP legislators to explain how they formed a separate group in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.

"The 6 (suspended) MLAs petitioned me that four members (legislators) had formed a separate group in the Assembly. I enclosed my letter (notice) along with the petition and have sent it to all four MLAS to explain their position," Prof Gupta said.

"I have told them to explain their position within two days of receipt of my letter. If they don't respond, I will take it that they have to nothing to say. So in that case I will take action," Gupta, who along with 6 other BJP MLAs, was suspended by party high command for cross voting on April 13 in the Legislative Council elections.

Acting Leader of BJP legislative party Jugal Kishore Sharma had issued notices to 7 suspended party legislators for disqualification from the posts of MLAs on May 23. Four BJP members had chosen Sharma as their legislative party leader.

"I am still leader of the legislative party chosen by 11 members. Speaker still considers me the leader. Speaker has turned down their (by four MLAs) application for choosing Jugal Sharma as party leader," he said.
