Jammu: Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP) workers staged a protest here on Saturday against the release of Hurriyat leader Mashrat Alam from the prison.

Ajay Pragal, one of the protestors, said that they would go on a state-wide protest till Masarat Alam is re-arrested.

"We have organised this protest against the release of 'stone pelters'. We will protest against this move by the administration, we will protest all across the state till they are re-arrested. Our demand to the administration is to re-arrest Masarat Alam," Pragal said.

Leader of the hard-line-faction of Hurriyat Masarat Alam was released from Baramulla prison today following the new government's policy to free political prisoners who do not face criminal charges.

Alam is the chairman of Muslim League, a constituent of hard-line Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani and is widely seen as the latter's successor.

He had been convicted for organizing an anti-India protests resulting into the death of 112 people in stone pelting across the Valley during 2010.
