Srinagar: A seven-year-old boy was killed and
a girl critically injured in a powerful explosion near Line of
Control (LoC) in Gurez sector of Bandipora district, official
sources said on Thursday.

Jameed Ahmad Lone died instantly and his 17-year-old
cousin Shaheena was critically injured last evening, when an
artillery shell went off at their house at village Sapni in
Tulail, 170 kms from here, the sources said.
Quoting preliminary investigations, sources said that the
boy had found an unexploded shell from the bed of a stream
flowing through their village and had taken it to his house.

Unmindful of the danger, Jameed started fiddling with the
shell which went off with a big bang, also damaging part of
his house, the sources said.
They said that the shell had apparently landed in the
area during cross-border shelling prior to the ceasefire
between India and Pakistan armies along the LoC in November
2003 and was undetected so far.
