Case against 12 for misappropriation of funds in J&K

Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation on Thursday registered a case against 12 people, including three engineers of a government department.

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance
Organisation on Thursday registered a case against 12 people,
including three engineers of a government department, for
misappropriating developmental funds in the border region of
North Kashmir`s Tangdhar.

The FIR was registered against three officers of
Special Sub-Division Roads and Buildings Department of
Tangdhar in Kupwara district and nine others who had allegedly
fabricated the records and misappropriated lakhs of rupees, an
official spokesman said.

He said preliminary investigation by the
anti-corruption body revealed that the accused were drawing
bills against non-existent and sub-standard works between 2007
and 2010, causing huge losses to the state exchequer.

The accused government officials were an Executive
Engineer, an Assistant Executive Engineer and a Junior
Engineer in the department, the spokesman said.

The case was registered under various sections of
Jammu and Kashmir Prevention of Corruption Act and Ranbir
Penal Code.
