`Census shouldn`t change Kashmir`s demography`

Hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani Thursday advised Jammu and Kashmir government employees detailed for census operations to discharge their duties honestly to ensure that the state`s demography would be protected.

Srinagar: Hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani Thursday advised Jammu and Kashmir government employees detailed for census operations to discharge their duties honestly to ensure that the state`s demography would be protected.

"Although the census is no alternative to self-determination, the local government employees must discharge their duties honestly to defeat the RSS-BJP designs to change the demography of Jammu and Kashmir," Geelani told a media conference here at his uptown Hyderpora residence.
The hardline separatist leader said the decision to reserve eight percent seats in recruitments at district levels by the government "was a cultural threat to Kashmir".

Geelani also expressed apprehensions that outsiders, including those from Bihar and other states, were being settled here to cause demographic changes here.

"It is a planned conspiracy to change the Muslim majority of the state," Geelani maintained.
He has announced a peaceful protest programme for the current month asking people to hold post-Friday prayer protests across the Valley.
