Srinagar: Union Minister for Forests and Environment Jairam Ramesh has said the Centre is planning a bigger project for the protection and restoration of Wullar Lake, Asia`s largest fresh water lake situated in north Kashmir.
"The cleaning of Dal lake project is on progress and the Union government is committed to a much bigger project for the protection and restoration of Wullar Lake," Ramesh said at the inaugural function of 3rd International Buyer-Seller meet here.
"My personal support and the support of my ministry will always be available to the state wherever and whenever required," Ramesh said.
Under the 13th Finance Commission, Centre had earlier this year sanctioned Rs 120 crore for the conservation of the Wullar lake.
In 2009, Ramesh said Rs 1,100 crore would be funded by the Centre for Dal cleaning, rehabilitation project and had assured liberal funding for other projects concerning restoration of water bodies in the state.
