Leh: The Congress on Thursday made a clean sweep in
the elections to the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development
Council, bagging 21 seats in the 30-member House, with BJP
getting only 4.
Congress, which ousted the BJP from power in the LAHDC,
had won two seats uncontested, while the remaining seat went
to an Independent. The polling was held on October 16.
Of the 30 members, 26 are directly elected and rest are
nominated.
The Council was constituted in accordance with the Ladakh
Autonomous Hill Development Council Act, 1995, following
demands of Ladakhi people to make Leh District a Union
Territory.
