Srinagar: A sessions court on Tuesday granted
bail to opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA
Nizamuddin Bhat in a case of alleged defamation filed against
him by Jammu and Kashmir government.
Bhat was granted bail by the Principal District and
Sessions judge Bansi Lal Bhat after the MLA appeared before
the court in person.
The court had issued a warrant through IGP Kashmir
against the MLA who had failed to appear before the court on
three previous hearings.
The state government had filed a defamation case against
Bhat and PDP chief spokesman Nayeem Akhtar for alleging that
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had received kickbacks in the
allotment of 690 MW Rattle power project.
The court fixed April 25 as the next date of hearing.
