CPI(M) seeks vision document for J&K youth

Jammu and Kashmir Unit of CPI(M) Monday called for chalking out a comprehensive vision document for the long term solution of problems being faced by youth in the state.

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Unit of CPI(M) Monday called for chalking out a comprehensive vision document for the long term solution of problems being faced by youth in the state.
Describing the youth as "builders of future", CPI(M) state secretary M Y Tarigami alleged that the state government was indifferent to them and neglected their aspirations. "The J&K youth have some specific difficulties including non-availability of quality vocational education, suitable employment opportunities and denial of economic and social empowerment," Tarigami said at the end of a two-day J&K state committee meeting of the party. He deplored the state government’s initiatives for tackling unemployment saying that employment plans like "Himayat", "Udaan", "Sher-e-Kashmir Employment & Welfare Programme for Youth" (SKEWPY) and "Prime Minister`s Employment Generation Programme" (PMEGP) have failed to attract the youth due to inherent loopholes in it. "The new recruitment policy is another blow on the job aspiring youth. The policy is unreasonable and unjustified and such an arrangement will have adverse repercussions on the delivery mechanism because of distress among the new incumbents," he said. The committee adopted a resolution expressing satisfaction on the shift from violence to peaceful protests by the youth and said the government should take it as an opportunity for dealing with the youngsters, he said. The committee also advocated formation of a state youth commission which can frame special and result oriented projects and schemes for the harmonious development of the youth. Terming the recent ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) as "unfortunate", Tarigami said such violations can exacerbate the ongoing impasse over Jammu and Kashmir and add to further tensions along the border. He called for demilitarisation on both sides of LoC to allow free movement of people and trade on both sides in a phased manner. He also demanded withdrawal of laws like Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), Disturbed Areas Act (DAA) and Public Safety Act (PSA) from the State. PTI
