Jammu: CPI(M) on Thursday opposed to the "trifurcation" of Jammu and Kashmir on religious and regional lines but advocated "greater autonomy" for the state and "regional autonomy" to its all three regions.

"We oppose to the trifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir State," Regional Secretary CPI(M) Sham Prasad Kesar said at a function in Kathua district.

The party opposed the idea of trifurcation and reorganization of the state presented by some parties and individuals which is fraught and dangerous, he said, adding, CPI(M) supports the unity of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.

Kesar also cautioned the people to remain vigilant against the forces advocating the trifurcation of the state.

"We advocate the greater autonomy to the state, regional autonomy to the all three regions of the state and devolution of powers up to the Panchayat level", he said.
