Jammu: Hundreds of daily wage workers of
Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (PDD) on Wednesday
struck work protesting the government`s failure to regularise
their services and asked Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to
intervene in the matter.
Over 300 PDD daily wagers and casual labourers struck
work and held a demonstration outside the Chief Engineer`s
office at Canal Road here.
They demanded regularisation of daily wagers and casual
labourers of the PDD who were working in the department for
the last 5-10 years.
Asking the Chief Minister to intervene into the issue,
they said, "He had promised to regularise the daily wagers in
phased manners in 2009 but nothing was done after that."
