`Darbar move` to affect traffic on J&K highway

Traffic on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu National Highway would be restricted to one-way for four days next month to facilitate smooth transfer of official records and employees in connection with bi-annual `Darbar move`.

Srinagar: Traffic on the 300-km-long
Srinagar-Jammu National Highway would be restricted to one-way
for four days next month to facilitate smooth transfer of
official records and employees in connection with bi-annual
`Darbar move`.
"No Jammu-based traffic will be allowed on Srinagar-Jammu
National highway on May 1 and 2 and further May 8 and 9 as
one-way is being enforced during these days," a spokesman of
the traffic department told agency here today.

He said the decision to restrict the traffic to one-way
on the four days was taken in connection with the Darbar move
from Jammu to Srinagar. Under the bi-annual exercise, the
government functions six months each in Jammu and Srinagar as
per centuries old practice.
While Civil Secretariat -- the seat of government -- and
other move offices function six months in Jammu during winter,
these offices reopen in summer capital Srinagar in May every
year.
