Dogra certificate issue: BJP targets Omar

BJP charged J&K government, led by CM Omar Abdullah, of allowing yet another unwarranted controversy to arise in the name of the `Dogra certificate` issue and said it can `seriously vitiate` the atmosphere in the Jammu region.

Jammu: The BJP on Friday charged J&K
government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, of allowing
yet another unwarranted controversy to arise in the name of
the `Dogra certificate` issue and said it can `seriously
vitiate` the atmosphere in the Jammu region.
"We charge Omar Abdullah-led government of allowing
yet another unwarranted controversy to arise in the name of
the Dogra certificate which can seriously vitiate the
atmosphere in Jammu region", BJP Chief Spokesperson & National
Executive Member Dr Jitendra Singh told reporters here today.

He said that while the National Conference-led
government is never tired of accusing BJP of being communal
and divisive, the fact is that it is the ruling polity playing
communal and divisive politics to appease the separatists in
the Valley on one hand and on the other hand to provoke public
unrest in the Jammu region.

Dr Singh further accused the NC government of
constantly violating the faith and self-pride of the people of
Jammu by raking up issues like Dogra certificate and Amarnath
Yatra, he said.
Dr Singh said that the decision to issue Dogra
Certificate ought to be viewed above religious or caste lines
and is only a reinforcement of secular identity based on
region and language which was also given precedence in the
Indian Constitution as a result of which after Independence,
the new States of the Indian Union were constituted on
linguistic pattern.

Meanwhile, opposition BJP today charged the Omar Abdullah
government in Jammu and Kashmir with sparking unwarranted
controversy in the name of Dogra certificate.

"We charge Omar Abdullah-led government with allowing yet
another unwarranted controversy to arise in the name of the
Dogra certificate which can seriously vitiate the atmosphere
in Jammu region," state BJP chief spokesperson Jitendra Singh
told reporters here.

He pointed to the government`s tendency to backtrack
under separatists pressure and said instead of giving a
communal colour to the issue, it should be used to reinforce
the bonds of composite culture among various communities in
the state.
