Drug peddlers arrested in Kashmir

Five alleged drug peddlers, including a woman, have been arrested from this city and central Kashmir`s Budgam district, police said today.

Srinagar: Five alleged drug peddlers, including a woman, have been arrested from this city and central Kashmir`s Budgam district, police said today.

Two of them, including the woman, were arrested from Srinagar city along with consignments of the contraband, a police spokesman said.

During checking of vehicles at Qamarwari on outskirts of the city, police spotted a suspicious person and recovered charas from his possession, the spokesman said.
The drug peddler was identified as Hilal Ahmad Mir, who was booked under the Narcotics Drugs And Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, he said.

In another incident, the spokesman said a woman, Fareeda of Shalteng area was searched by a lady constable and Charas was recovered from her possession that was intended to be delivered for sale to some youth.

In central Kashmir`s Budgam district, three persons were arrested from Beerwah area and 700 grams of Charas recovered from them, the spokesman said.

Arshad Ahmad, Mohammad Yaseen Bhat and Gulzar Ahmad Ganaie were arrested while transporting the consignment of Charas, the spokesman said.

He said 700 grams of Charas, raw material and accessories were recovered from their possession and a case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the trio.
