Srinagar: Police on Tuesday sealed a hotel here
and detained seven couples for allegedly indulging in indecent
behaviour even as radical women's outfit Dukhtaran-e-Millat
raided several restaurants to throw a spanner in Valentine’s
Day celebrations.
A hotel, adjacent to erstwhile Naaz Cinema, was sealed
after seven couples were found allegedly indulging in indecent
behaviour during a police raid, officials said.
Activists of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, dressed in black burqas
(long loose garments covering the whole body), visited several
restaurants and counselled the couples against celebrating the
the V-Day.
"These celebrations are un-Islamic and promote
promiscuous behaviour among boys and girls. We are only
counselling these youngsters," said an activist.
A large number of police personnel were deployed in the
Lal Chowk city centre and adjoining areas to maintain law and
order.
The "counselling sessions" of Dukhtaran-e-Millat passed
off peacefully unlike in the past when its activists were
accused of vandalism.
