Srinagar: A policeman deployed as an escort for a PDP MLA has been detained for questioning over his alleged involvement in the shooting that left two Congress workers injured, police said today.

Altaf Baba, who was part of the security escort of PDP MLA from Bandipora, Nizamuddin Bhat, was detained after local residents claimed that he was involved in the shooting in Barzulla area last evening, police sources said.
Congress workers Mudasir Ahmad Shah and Abdul Majid Khan were injured in the firing incident, initially believed to have been carried out by militants.

The residents alleged that Baba had some property dispute with his neighbours, which had led to the incident yesterday.

Superintendent of Police Bandipora Bashir Ahmad Khan said so far no person has been arrested in connection with the case.

"Investigations are going on. We are questioning several people, including the policeman," he said.
