Srinagar: The first batch of over 250
Hajj pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday returned home after performing the 45-day annual pilgrimage in holy cities of
Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia.
The 253 pilgrims from the state arrived in two flights
from Medina after a brief stopover in Delhi, an official
spokesman said.
The pilgrims were received by Law and Parliamentary
Affairs minister Ali Mohammad Sagar, Social Welfare minister
Sakina Ittoo and Minister of State for Hajj and Auqaf Aijaz
Ahmad Khan at the Srinagar International Airport.
Nearly 6,800 pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir are among
1.75 lakh people from India who have gone to perform Hajj this
year.
They will be returning home over the next month in
batches of around 250 each.
