Former militant killed for giving land for cell phone tower

Separatist guerrillas on Tuesday shot dead a former militant, who rented land for a mobile phone tower in a village in Jammu and Kashmir`s Baramulla district, police said.

Srinagar: Separatist guerrillas on Tuesday shot dead a former militant, who rented land for a mobile phone tower in a village in Jammu and Kashmir`s Baramulla district, police said.

The assailants stormed into the home of Ghulam Hassan Dar in Dooru village near Sopore town on Tuesday evening and gunned him down, a senior police officer told IANS.

"Militants fired at Dar from close range. He died on the spot," the officer said.

Dar had rented land to a mobile phone company for a tower.

Guerrillas on Monday killed a local and injured two others in Sopore town after they fired at a shop where BSNL SIM cards were being sold.

Guerrillas have threatened all cell phone companies to shut their businesses in Sopore town after police recovered a high powered communication equipment installed by the guerrillas on a mobile phone tower in Badami Bagh area of the town.
