Four die in Vaishno Devi Shrine track landslide, night treks stopped

At least four people - three pilgrims and one pony owner - were killed and eight injured on Saturday morning in a landslide on the track to the hilltop Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Jammu and Kashmir`s Katra district, police said.

Jammu: At least four people - three pilgrims and one pony owner - were killed and eight injured on Saturday morning in a landslide on the track to the hilltop Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Jammu and Kashmir`s Katra district, police said.

A landslide hit the old track to the shrine, hitting at least a dozen people, a police official said.

The injured have been shifted to a hospital, the official said.

Following the incident, the management of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Saturday suspended the Yatra during the night.

A Shrine Board official said it had been decided to suspend the Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra during the night for the time being because of apprehension of landslides along the mountainous track.
