Srinagar: Pant hospital, which was mired in controversy recently for its high infant mortality rate, has introduced several measures to "strengthen and augment" the medical services as the hospital administrator claimed that the deaths have fallen by 25 per cent.
A meeting to review the various initiatives taken by the Jammu and Kashmir government to "strengthen and augment" the medical services at the hospital was held yesterday and chaired by secretary Health and Medical Education M K Dwivedi, an official spokesman said.
Senior doctors and officials of several departments participated in the meeting, the spokesman said.
Principal of Government Medical College, Srinagar, while giving a detailed presentation said the deficiency of paramedical staff in the G B Pant hospital has been filled up either through transfers or through academic arrangement.
The posts of lecturers stand advertised and shall be filled up very soon, the spokesman added.
Steps have also been taken to strengthen the infrastructure - machinery, equipment and diagnostic facilities - in the hospital, the meeting was informed.
Medical Superintendent of G B Pant hospital Muneer Masoodi said that the morality rate has fallen by 25 per cent.
The state government on May 17 transferred the then Medical Superintendent of G B Pant Hospital amidst a public outcry over high number of infant deaths in the hospital.
A government inquiry, which was headed by a senior doctor, had pointed out that the hospital was lacking in capacity on many fronts, including manpower, equipment and overall management of the services rendered by the hospital.
