Geelani favours political solution to Kashmir problem
Hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani said a political solution was the only way out to resolve the Kashmir problem.
Srinagar: Hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Sunday said a political solution was the only way out to resolve the Kashmir problem.
In a statement, he also demanded release of political prisoners and revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act and the Public Safety Act.
"A political solution is the only way out for resolving the Kashmir problem," the Chairman of the hardline faction of the Hurriyat Conference said.
Pressing for release of political prisoners, he said "their imprisonment cannot lead to resolution of the Kashmir problem."
On Kashmir interlocutors, the Hurriyat hawk said the setting up of the three-member team by the Centre was intended to hoodwink the people.
"Their remote control lies with New Delhi and they occasionally come to tour the state," he said.
The separatist leader demanded revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act and the Public Safety Act alleging 85 per cent of the people were jailed under these provisions.
