Jammu,: Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra has expressed concerns and grief over the loss of lives in a road accident in Katra on Wednesday.
Five persons were killed and 18 injured when a mini bus fell into a deep gorge near Katra belt of the district today, police said.
The bus, which was on its way to Reasi, skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge.
The Governor has expressed serious concern and grief over the incident, a Raj Bhawan spokesman said.
He has conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls.
He also prayed for speedy recovery of all those injured in the tragic accident, the spokesman said.
The Governor, who is the Chairman of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, has directed Chief Executive Officer of the Board M K Bhandari to provide all help and support to the injured persons, he said.
Immediately after the accident, officers deputed by the CEO rushed to the mishap site and helped in evacuating and shifting the injured to Katra hospital through ambulances and other vehicles of the Shrine Board.
Later, the Shrine Board also provided ambulances for shifting the seriously injured persons to the Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu for specialised treatment.
Dr Vinod Gupta, Director, Medical Services, SMVDSB and other officers of the Board were deputed to the Government Medical College Hospital for providing support and assistance to the injured.
