Heroin worth over Rs 12 cr recovered in J&K

 Police have recovered 2.5 kg heroin worth Rs 12.5 crore in the international market and Rs 4.49 lakh cash in Khour border belt of the district.

Jammu: Police have recovered 2.5 kg heroin worth Rs 12.5 crore in the international market and Rs 4.49 lakh cash in Khour border belt of the district.

On the information given by Preeto Devi, wife of infamous deceased narcotic smuggler Sarfoo Ram, the police raided the house of Ajeet Kumar yesterday and recovered 2.5 kg heroin, Rs 4,49,900 in cash and gold necklaces, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Akhnoor, Naresh Singh said.

Sarfoo's younger brother Ajeet, also the kingpin of a drug racket, managed to escape, he said.

Preeto Devi was arrested by the police on May 8 from Khour area along with 4.15 kg narcotics and Rs 8,94,500 cash.

With her arrest, the police claimed to have busted the major drug racket operating in the region.

Sarfoo Ram, an infamous drug dealer here had died a couple of years ago while his two sons, also involved in illicit trade, are serving their terms in a jail in Punjab, Singh said.

Meanwhile, police also arrested Shanker Singh and recovered 1 kg poppy from his eating point in Chenani area of Udhampur district.
