Honourable solution to Kashmir is in sight: PDP

PDP patron Mufti Mohammed Sayeed said the confidence building measures announced by foreign ministers of India and Pakistan were "not a mere step but a stride".

Srinagar: Expressing confidence that an
honourable solution to the Kashmir issue is in sight, PDP
patron Mufti Mohammed Sayeed on Thursday said the confidence
building measures announced by foreign ministers of India and
Pakistan were "not a mere step but a stride".
Addressing party workers on the 12th foundation day of
PDP, Sayeed said he clearly saw light at the end of the tunnel
and an end to the miseries of people.

"Kashmir solution looks clearly in sight," he said.
Sayeed said though there was an obvious progress on
the external front, it was unfortunate that for some quarters
Kashmir was only a local law and order problem.

The PDP patron was referring to the statement of the
Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in which he congratulated
the J-K government for "controlling stone pelting".

Maintaining that Kashmir is a political problem,
Sayeed said it was unfortunate that the Home Minister did not
refer to the governance crisis in the state.

Sayeed also expressed concern that many senior
politicians and youth were still behind bars for keeping out
trouble from the streets.
"We will resist keeping people in jail as democracy is
a battle of ideas and a level field has to be provided to all
people," he added.
