IED recovery: Ex-Army man, 5 arrested in Jammu

A former army man and an SPO were among six persons arrested in connection with recovery of IEDs in high-security MLA hostel area in Jammu city on Friday.

Jammu: A former army man and an SPO were
among six persons arrested in connection with recovery of IEDs
in high-security MLA hostel area in Jammu city on Friday with
a top police officer saying that "some" Military Intelligence
officials were under scanner.

"We are investigation the role of some officers of
Military Intelligence in IEDs recovery case in Jammu,"
Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Ashok Gupta said.
An official monitoring the case said that the
explosives were brought by five-member militant module from
Gandoh belt of Doda district to Jammu for delivery to one Ram
Krishen - an ex-serviceman who was arrested today.

An army official, on condition of anonymity, said, "we
had given information to the CID about the IEDs".

While Hizb Militant Muneer Ahmed Malik alias Munna was
arrested soon after he dropped apple boxes containing the
Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on parapet near the MLA
hostel area in the city on Friday, his associated Munib Ahmed
was arrested at Chenani of Jammu-Srinagar highway, police
said.

"Police also arrested an SPO working with Gandoh Police
Station Mohmmad Rafi alias Pinka, Mohmmad Ashraf, Nizam-ud-Din
alias Nazakat were arrested yesterday", Deputy Inspector
General of Police, Doda-Kishtwar range, Muneesh Sinha said.
A Special Investigation Team of police is probing the
case, especially to find out how such a large quantity of IEDs
were transported from Gandoh belt of Doda district to Jammu
without any checking along the route.

Police are still looking for dismissed SPO Mehboob Dar
while arrested SPO Rafi was also sacked today.

During investigation, it was disclosed that Rafi was
involved in fabricating IEDs along with Dar. Asharaf, a
carpenter, made apple boxes and concealed the IEDs in them and
Nizam-udi-Din had arranged the vehicle for carrying the
explosives to Jammu, police claimed.

The IEDs were recovered on the first day of Navratras
when the city usually has stepped up security.
