Jammu: A man who falsely claimed to be an 'advisor' in the Prime Minister's Officer (PMO) and was provided special facilities by authorities for visiting the Vaishnodevi shrine was taken into custody in Katra in Jammu and Kashmir.

Police became suspicious of activities of Manmohan Singh who was provided security and transport facility by authorities after he claimed that he was an advisor in the PMO, a police official said.

Police verified the antecedents of the person from the PMO and it turned out that he was an imposter, the official.

Singh, who visited the cave shrine, was held by police in Katra, 30 kms from here, and taken to police station, he said.

"He was not an advisor or any official in the PMO," police said, adding that the man later claimed that he had worked with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh when he was an MP.
