Srinagar: An ISRO scientist died of cardiac arrest on Tuesday while delivering lecture during a regional conference at the Kashmir University here, officials said.

Professor S K Pathan, who was also vice-president of Indian Society of Geomatics, suffered a massive heart attack as he was delivering presidential address at the University's Gandhi Bhawan at Hazratbal, they said.

Pathan, who hailed from Ahmedabad in Gujarat, was shifted to SKIMS hospital at Soura where doctors declared him brought dead.

The body was handed over to police so that formalities could be done to send it to his hometown.

Pathan was a group director at the Ahmedabad Space Application Centre (SAC) of ISRO.

The two-day conference is being organised by University of Kashmir in collaboration with the Indian Society of Geomatics.

It is really a shocking news this morning and I can``t believe it. He was just 58 years old and real gem of a scientist. We had our nice meeting with him during the annual ISRO-SAC respond meeting in December last year. He is the one who pioneered use of space technology for urban planning and smart cities. He was our project director for SAC, ISRO. A tremendous loss to the country due to his untimely demise....May God rest his soul in peace.
