The Jammu-Srinagar Highway remained closed for the fifth consecutive day Thursday, with experts predicting more rain and snow across Kashmir.

Srinagar: The Jammu-Srinagar Highway remained closed for the fifth consecutive day Thursday, with experts predicting more rain and snow across Kashmir.

"The highway would be opened for two-way traffic tomorrow (Friday) subject to the weather condition," said a traffic department officer here.

The closure of the highway has affected the supply of essential commodities in the Kashmir Valley. It is the valley`s only road link with the rest of the country.

Kerosene oil and cooking gas are running in short supply all over the snow-hit valley.

According to Sonum Lotus, director of the weather office, the weather would remain inclement across Kashmir till Feb 15.

"A feeble western disturbance persists over Kashmir. This is likely to continue till the 15th of this month." The minimum temperature in Srinagar was 0.2 degrees Celsius Thursday.
