The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for traffic for the second consecutive day on Wednesday following massive landslides triggered by heavy rainfall.

Jammu: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for traffic for the second consecutive day on Wednesday following massive landslides triggered by heavy rainfall.

"No fresh movement of vehicles was allowed today on the highway from both the sides of Jammu and Srinagar", SSP Traffic, National Highway, Sanjay Kotwal said.

The 300 km arterial road was closed yesterday after massive landslides took place at several places along the highway.

The road was blocked at several places between Batote and Banihal in Ramban district, the SSP said, adding some vehicles were stranded on the highway.

He said continuous heavy rainfall was hampering the road opening operation.

The men and machinery of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) have been kept on standby and as soon as the weather condition improves, road opening work would begin, he said.

The Batote-Doda-Kishtwar road has also been closed for the movement of traffic for the second day today.

The road was blocked at Raggi Nallah and Koda Pani area, he said.

"We have stopped the movement of fresh vehicles on both the highways and the vehicles will only be allowed to ply when the debris is removed," he added.
