Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered an inquiry into the death of a woman allegedly in security forces action to curb sectarian clashes in Budgam district of central Kashmir.
The inquiry was ordered by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during a meeting with senior Shia leader and MLA Budgam Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi yesterday, an official spokesman said. He said Mehdi called on Omar to discuss the situation in the district hit by sectarian violence last week. The chief minister also announced government job for one family member of the deceased woman under compassionate grounds. Fatima, who had sustained grievous head injuries on Tuesday, succumbed to injuries at SKIMS hospital Soura yesterday. The woman was reportedly injured when a mob - armed with knives and swords - from Dadina village in Budgam attacked police personnel deployed for curbing sectarian clashes in the district. In order to ensure the safety of the people living in the area and also to save themselves, the police personnel resorted to lathicharge which resulted in critical injuries to Fatima. PTI
