J&K govt determined to hold panchayat poll: Omar

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has said his government is determined to hold panchayat elections in the next few months.

Minister Omar Abdullah has said his government is determined
to hold panchayat elections in the next few months.
The Chief Minister said even though the law and order
situation in Valley has hampered the process, his government
is determined to hold the elections in the coming months.

"The state government is presently losing Rs 350 crores
annually for not having panchayats in place. There is urgent
need to have panchayats in place and catapult the development
in rural areas," Omar said at a public meeting here last
evening.
The devolution of power to the lower level was imperative
to implement development plans successfully as per the
requirement of the people, Omar said while launching a police
recruitment drive in Warwan valley of Kishtwar district.
