Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said his government is making all efforts to ensure that the summer unrest of the past three years is not repeated this year.
"We are making all efforts to ensure that summer unrest of last three years is not repeated this year," he told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.
He said summer is that part of the year when most of the developmental activities take place in the Valley which directly affects its economy.
"Summer is the peak of our tourist season, education year and construction works as well. We would want to see it peaceful," he said.
Kashmir Valley has seen agitations of varying intensity over the past three summers, which badly affected the development process.
While nearly 50 persons were killed in the Amarnath Land row agitation in 2008, more than 100 persons were killed in the summer unrest last year. One person was killed during
protests over the Shopian incident, in which two women were raped and murdered in the valley, in 2009.
