J&K govt seeks CRRI's help to check road accidents

Jammu: Concerned over frequent road mishaps in hilly areas, the Jammu and Kashmir government has roped in Central Road Research Institute to suggest remedial measures to check these accidents.

"Road mishaps in Doda-Kishtwar and other hilly districts in Jammu region are of great concern...a comprehensive strategy is required to address the problem...CRRI has been roped in to conduct a detail survey and formulate report suggesting remedial measures to check these accidents," Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said here on Tuesday.

He was addressing a board meeting of twin districts Doda and Samba.

The Chief Minister said a new fleet of SRTC buses would be added to the present one plying in the accident prone areas to augment the transport facilities and reduce the chances of accidents due to overloads and aged vehicles.
