In a case of mistaken identity, Army troops shot at and injured a man in Bandipora district of north Kashmir, officials said on Tuesday.

Srinagar: In a case of mistaken identity, Army troops shot at and injured a man in Bandipora district of north Kashmir, officials said on Tuesday.

Mohammad Anwar Tass (35), a resident of Malangam, was hit by a bullet when he ran into an ambush laid by army for suspected militants at Lachkoot forest, 65 kms from here, the officials said.

They said that as he was moving last night Tass was asked to stop by the troops. On him ignoring the signal to halt, the troops opened fire causing bullet injuries to his leg.

He was immediately shifted to 92 base hospital at Badamibagh headquarters here for treatment, the officials said.

The Army had laid an ambush in the area following intelligence inputs about possible movement of militants under the cover of darkness, they added.
