J&K: Militant killed in encounter with forces

Srinagar: An unidentified militant was on Thursday killed in an encounter with security forces in forest area of Handwara in north Kashmir's Kupwara district, officials said here.

An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in Hamla forests in Handwara, 90 kms from here, late last night after army and police launched a search operation in the area, they said.

One militant was killed in the gun battle in the wee hours today, while at least another ultra was still engaged in the gun fight with the forces, they said.

Meanwhile, in another operation, security forces busted a militant hideout in Kanthabagh area of Baramulla district last night and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition, they said.

The recoveries included an Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL),three UBGL grenades, one pistol, three magazines, 33 pistol rounds,eight AK magazines, 344 AK rounds, one wireless set and three hand grenades.

Militant hideout busted

Security personnel today busted a militant hideout and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district, officials said.

Acting on a tip-off, Rastriya Rifles launched a search operation in Beli forest belt and busted the hideout, they said.

One grenade, 49 AK ammunition rounds, 38 AK rounds and nine rounds of rifles were recovered from the hideout, the officials said.
