Srinagar: A senior leader of ruling
National Conference was on Wednesday arrested for allegedly beating
up a man and his daughter following an altercation in a busy
market here, police said.
Bashir Ahmad Bhat in his complaint has alleged that he
along with his daughter Shagufta were beaten up by Sheikh
Ghulam Ahmad Saloora, NC Provincial Secretary and his aides at
Jehangir Chowk near Lal Chowk this afternoon, they said.

The scuffle broke out between Bhat and Saloora when the
former allegedly parked his vehicle at the middle of the road
leading to a traffic jam, the police said.

Bhat`s daughter protested the alleged high handedness of
the politician after which Saloora and his aides thrashed both
of them, police said.

Large number of people gathered at the scene and smashed
the window panes of Saloora`s vehicle before police took him
into custody.
A case under relevant section of RPC was registered
against the leader, they said.
