Srinagar: The meeting of North Zonal Council which was to be chaired by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on September 27 here has been postponed as assembly sessions in most of the constituent states will be then in progress, a senior official said Friday.

"The North Zonal Council secretariat has informed us that the meeting has been postponed for the time being," Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Madhav Lal told reporters.

He said the assemblies of many states in the North Zonal Council will be in session next week, coinciding with the scheduled dates of the meeting.

While fresh dates have been not been notified to states, it is likely to be held before the end of October, he added.

The Council comprising Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, National Capital Territory of Delhi and Union Territory of Chandigarh would focus on areas of common interest and seek solution to the pending issues among the neighbouring states in the zone.
