J&K: Political parties hail revocation of Dogra certificate

Political parties and both factions of Hurriyat Conference hailed the decision of J&K government of revocation of the Dogra certificate with the opposition PDP saying the move "exposed" the state government`s "callous approach".

Srinagar: Political parties and both
factions of Hurriyat Conference on Friday hailed the decision of
Jammu and Kashmir government of revocation of the Dogra
certificate with the opposition PDP saying the move "exposed"
the state government`s "callous approach".

Opposition PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said
rescinding of the Dogra certificate order has "exposed" the
state government’s "callous approach" in dealing with issues.
"It is unfortunate to see the way the state government
is taking so casually the issues which have the potential of
vitiating the atmosphere in the state," she said.

Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of north
Kashmir`s Langate constituency Abdul Rashid said that
rescinding of the Dogra certificate has vindicated his stand.

Rashid, who is an independent MLA, termed the
revocation order has exposed the "short-sightedness and
lackadaisical" approach by the ruling NC-Congress coalition
government.

Hardline Hurriyat Conference also termed the
revocation of the Dogra certificate as a "victory" of the
people of Kashmir and said it will be a morale booster for
Kashmiris.

"It (revocation of the order) is the victory of the
people of Kashmir, it is the victory of principles," Hurriyat
spokesman Ayaz Akbar said.

He said the revocation of the order has proved that
nothing is "unachievable" if "we stand determined and
resolute".

"This is a morale booster for us," he said.
The hardline Hurriyat headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani
had threatened to call for protests if the government did not
rescind the order to issue Dogra certificates before the end
of this month.

The Jammu and Kashmir government yesterday
`superseded` the controversial Dogra certificate order, two
days before Geelani`s ultimatum was to end.

Geelani was not available for comments as he had left
home for an undisclosed location to address a Friday
gathering. The Hurriyat office bearers refused to divulge any
details about Geelani`s programme.

The moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar
Farooq said rescinding the orders on Dogra certificate has
exposed how mainstream politicians are using legislative
Assembly to "devise strategies" against the majority
population in the state.

"This (rescinding) is what we wanted. By issuing such
orders, the Jammu and Kashmir government wants to divide and
sub-divide the state," Mirwaiz said.

He said there is a need to remain vigilant against
such orders in the future.

"In future, people will have to keep an eye on all
these laws and bills because it seems that the mainstream
political parties are using Assembly as a platform to devise
strategies against the majority population in Jammu and
Kashmir," he said.
