J&K: Speaker holds all-party meeting

Srinagar: Seeking cooperation for the smooth conduct of assembly proceedings beginning Monday, Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Mohammad Akbar Lone held an all-party legislators meeting and took stock of various arrangements for the session.

Lone assured the legislators that the proceedings would be held in a very cordial manner and every public representative would be given ample opportunity to raise the public issue of their constituency, a spokesperson said.

The legislators highlighted various issues and gave their suggestions for holding the house proceedings in a congenial atmosphere in accordance with norms of parliamentary democracy, he said.

Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Minister for Rural Development, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ali Mohammad Sagar assured the Speaker of full support on behalf of the government.

Legislators Chaman Lal Gupta and Ashok Kumar Khajuria stressed upon the need for holding of three sessions in a year and the Speaker assured them that the matter will be examined and taken up with the government.

Advisor to Chief Minister and chief whip National Conference Mubarak Gul, Legislator, Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, besides Secretary Assembly, M Ramzan were present in the meeting.

Later, the Speaker visited MLA hostel here and took stock of arrangements for the stay of legislators.

He directed the management to ensure better catering facilities to the legislators, besides, maintenance of the hostel.

Taking serious note of the non-attendance of the staff, the Speaker directed the concerned to send their attendance to the Assembly Secretariat on a day-to-day basis, the spokesman said.
