Jammu: The state unit of Congress on Tuesday demanded the Governor to initiate a probe into the alleged police firing incident in Palhalan area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district in which a 19-year-old youth was killed.

"I condemn the firing by security forces in Palhalan (Pattan) in which a youth was killed the other day," Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Saif Uddin Soz said here.

"I feel that to open fire like this can be avoided... Surely the?aim to kill is different from the aim to injure," he said while expressing sympathies with the bereaved family.

"I urge the Governor to institute a proper inquiry into this matter," Soz said.

Farooq Ahmad Bhat was killed yesterday when security forces fired at demonstrators who were protesting on the second anniversary of Afzal Guru's hanging in Palhalan area.
