Srinagar: Union Minister for New and
Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah, who is also the president of
ruling National Conference, on Thursday asked Jammu and Kashmir
administration to gear up to tackle the problems that have
erupted due to snowfall.

"Government should use all its resources to help the
common people and work to provide respite to them. This is our
moral and basic duty," Abdullah said in a statement.

He said the administration should mobilise its men and
machinery to help people in dealing with problems due to
snowfall.

Abdullah, who is chief minister Omar Abdullah`s
father, asked the heads of Power Development Department,
Public Health Engineering Department, Roads and Buildings
Department and Food Supplies department to "personally
monitor" the work of their departments.

Valley has been witnessing moderate snowfall since
yesterday, which has resulted in disruption of power supply
and blocking of many roads.
