J&K High Court gets new Chief Justice

Justice Narayanan Nadar Paul Vasanthakumar has been appointed as the next Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.

New Delhi: Justice Narayanan Nadar Paul Vasanthakumar has been appointed as the next Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.

His appointment will be effective from the date he assumes charge, a Law Ministry statement said on Thursday. He is currently a judge in the Madras High Court.

Justice Vasanthkumar (59) is a specialist in service law, labour law and education-related matters.

He was Senior Standing Counsel for Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission and also Standing Counsel for the central government.

He was appointed as Additional Judge of the Madras High Court in December 2005 and elevated as a Permanent Judge in April 2007.

Earlier this month, Justice Muhammad Yaqoob Mir, the senior-most judge of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, was appointed as the acting Chief Justice following the retirement of Chief Justice Mahesh Mittal Kumar.
