J&K Police approves Rs 1.10 lakh scholarship for martyrs' kids

 Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday sanctioned over Rs 1.10 lakh as scholarship for 17 school going children of policemen who sacrificed their lives while fighting militancy in the state.

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday sanctioned over Rs 1.10 lakh as scholarship for 17 school going children of policemen who sacrificed their lives while fighting militancy in the state.

Director General of Police (DGP) K Rajendra Kumar sanctioned the scholarships for 17 school going children of martyrs, who laid down their lives for bringing peace in the state, an official spokesperson said.

The scholarships for the children studying in different classes for the ongoing academic year 2014-2015 was announced after a meeting of the executive body of Police Parivar Fund, chaired by the DGP at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here, he said.

Addressing the meeting Kumar said, "Police has been fighting the menace of terrorism for over two decades in which large number of our brave jawans and officers laid down their precious lives."

It was due to their supreme sacrifices that security situation in the State has evolved positively and the sufferings of people on account of violence unleashed by militants have come down, he said.

"Violence left the families of our martyrs especially the children in a desperate condition and the organisation realised its prime responsibility to come forward and provide a helping hand in the form of financial assistance to these families," he added.

He said among various steps taken for the welfare of martyrs' families and the serving personnel, scholarships are provided to their wards to help them continue their studies and excel in different fields of life.

Also free education is provided to them in Police Public Schools established in the State, Kumar added.
