J&K polls: 84 polling parties, security men airlifted to far-flung booths

Jammu: A total of 84 polling parties along with security personnel have been airlifted to polling stations set-up in far-flung and remote mountainous belts of Jammu and Kashmir for the first phase of Assembly polls on Tuesday.

A total of 10,502,50 voters, including 5,49,698 men and 5,00,539 women, will decide the fate of 12 sitting MLAs, including seven ministers among 123 candidates at 1,900 polling stations in 15 constituencies tomorrow.

The Assembly segments going to polls tomorrow are Kishtwar, Inderwal, Doda, Bhaderwah, Ramban and Banihal (in Jammu division); Gurez, Bandipora, Sonawari, Kangan and Ganderbal (in Kashmir) and Nobra, Leh, Kargil and Zanskar (in Ladakh).

"As many as 84 polling parties along with security personnel have been airlifted to polling stations set-up in far-flung and remote mountainous belts in 15 Assembly segments going to polls tomorrow," Chief Electoral Officer, J&K, Umang Narola said.

Measures have been put in place at the polling station level, including multi-tier security to ensure free, fair and peaceful polling tomorrow, Narola said.

There is no report of any untoward incident reported from anywhere so far, he added.
